Every once in a while something rears its head on my dashboard that’s just so ass-backwardsly moronic it kind of blows my mind and I don’t mean to insult the people who reblogged it because these opinions are kind of a dime a dozen and are easily digestible despite appearing to be some sort of nu-metal buttknocker “fuck you” to the faceless establishment
Romanticizing the past and/or being cynical about the current zeitgeist is so incredibly lazy because everything was always kind of awful with a lot of things to also be happy about and while the metric with which we surmise this truth may have changed, it’s still a truth
Frank Sinatra was releasing music around the same time Rosa Parks was refusing to give up her seat to a white man and Abbot and Costello released a film the same year the US dropped the bomb, Kitty Genovese was stabbed to death despite several of her neighbours hearing it happening the same year The Beatles made their debut on Ed Sullivan and now, yes, we have amazing technology and the ability to parade our vapidity around on Facebook
But people are so fucking complicated and there’s always been stupid and wonderful and that’s really the just the human condition and you can be a misanthropic piece of shit about it or you can just take the bad with the good because that’s literally what humans have been doing the entire time they’ve been on this stupid and wonderful chunk of rock we call earth
